Last week at Wellington College International Hangzhou, we embraced the vibrant spirit of Diwali, an incredibly special festival, celebrated by millions of people around the world. It is a time of joy, love, and togetherness which resonates deeply with our core Wellington values. People come together to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
During the festival, people light lamps, decorate their homes and streets, wear beautiful traditional clothes, and indulge in delicious food and sweets. All expressions that reflect our commitment to nurturing positivity, unity and the pursuit of knowledge. The celebration was a testament to the cultural diversity and educational excellence that define our international school community.
However, Diwali is more than that, it is a time of reflection and rejuvenation. It is a chance to start anew, let go of the past, and embrace all the good that life has to offer. The parents went above and beyond, volunteering to create stunning Rangoli patterns, leading the Diwali activities, and supporting the festivities in every way possible. They truly brought the spirit of Diwali to life, showcasing the beautiful colours, traditions and customs of this wonderful festival.
Their contributions made the day even more special, and we are immensely grateful for their efforts and support. We commend our parents for their remarkable initiative and look forward to celebrating more special festivals with their support and participation.
Our catering company, Sodexo, elevated the day with a delightful and authentic Diwali lunch. The aromas and flavours were simply irresistible, and everyone enjoyed every bite. We couldn't be more grateful to have a catering company that goes the extra mile to make every special occasion even more special! They added their own unique touch to the celebration with their amazing food, and we are sure that everyone had an incredible Diwali experience.
Throughout the day, our primary school pupils had a fantastic time engaging in various craft activities such as painting Diya lamps, making them out of clay, creating Mehndi Henna art, and rangoli paper plates. The assembly led by our senior school pupils was engaging and educational as they shared their knowledge of Diwali with everyone.
The primary school pupils' incredible dance and singing performances filled the room with joy and excitement! We wrapped up the day with a fun Diwali quiz testing our Diwali knowledge. We gratefully acknowledge the indispensable contributions of our parents who helped make this day even more magical. It was an unforgettable Diwali celebration full of love, joy, and happy memories!
