Mrs. Vogt

13 Jan 2022

At Wellington College International Hangzhou, we aspire to create a caring, international community that develops well-rounded individuals with strong values and the skills and identity to thrive in an ever-changing world. Community is at the centre of all we do at Wellington. We continuously strive to work together with our parents, staff and pupils to develop that strong sense of community that makes international schools unique. In this series of "We Are Wellington" articles, we aim to tell the stories of those families and highlight the special contributions they make to our community.

This is the first of three articles in the 2021-22 series from Mrs. Simone Vogt, mother of Isabelle (Year 3). Mr. and Mrs. Vogt moved to China from Germany in 2020. They have three children: Isabelle, Valentin, and Leonard. Isabelle joined Wellington College International Hangzhou in Year 2, and Valentin is now attending Huili Nursery Hangzhou.

Personalised support from teachers

At Wellington College International Hangzhou, expert teachers highly differentiate teaching; they understand that every pupil is unique. Therefore, pupils who meet the admissions requirements and are admitted into the school will receive a personalised learning journey to ensure they thrive both academically and socially during their time at Wellington.

This offering convinced the Vogt family during their first visit to the school. They believe that Wellington College International Hangzhou is the correct choice for their children. They chose Wellington over other international schools because of the high academic standard and how Isabelle’s schedule would be individualised once she joined the school. Isabelle could catch up with her classmates within a few months through individualised learning. German is Isabelle’s first language. School has provided an individual schedule for her and one-on-one sessions with support teachers, who taught her how to develop her English and keep up with the pace in all other lessons.

Growing as an independent individual

Our youngest Wellingtonians are encouraged to develop their learning skills in stimulating, colourful and child-friendly surroundings. The guidance from teachers plays a significant part in Isabelle’s growth. She listens and follows the advice of her teachers. As a result, Isabelle is full of curiosity. She adapts her behaviour from the teachers and learns the school values and identities, such as Kindness and independence. As a result, she has stepped out of her comfort zone and is proud of her newly discovered behaviours and skills, which takes courage.

Isabelle has gained more and more confidence over her time at Wellington College International Hangzhou. She has been highly motivated to improve in each lesson. The whole atmosphere is very welcoming, and Isabelle quickly found good friends.

A warm and welcoming community

Summer Carnival 2020

At Wellington, we value the spirit of community. Therefore, we invite parents interested in contributing to come along, get involved, and play an integral part in school life. Any role, large or small, is valuable, appreciated and welcomed.

Halloween 2021

All Wellington parents from their year group have welcomed the Vogt family and made great friends. They have been participating in and supporting school events and activities throughout the year. They encourage more families to join the ‘Friends of Wellington’ to build our community even more.

Wellington College International Hangzhou takes tremendous pride in internationalism and our diverse community. We believe that every child is unique. Therefore, our responsibility is to provide them with as many good experiences as possible to help them find themselves as they grow and mature and become the very best they can be.
