The house system is designed to ensure that every pupil feels supported and valued, fostering a sense of belonging. Primarily, a pupil's House is their home during the day; it provides them with a House Master and tutor with whom they can share their achievements, as well as any potential concerns. It also serves to build a much more tangible sense of community throughout the school, as the Houses contain pupils from every age group, all of whom encourage one another and work together for the good of their house.
The house system ensures Wellingtonians become crucial members of a team from the moment they join the College. Suppose one imagines a year group as a horizontal structure, encompassing every pupil of a given age. In that case, the House is a vertical structure, comprising some members from each year group.
Over the course of the year, several house-based competitions and events will bring Wellingtonians together, not just within their houses and across year groups, but also in a wider sense, involving the entire community. This system, coupled with our wellbeing lessons and approach to learning that embodies the Wellington Values and Identity, provides a healthy and stimulating environment where every child will have a sense of belonging and fulfilment.
