Our Teaching Team Welcomes New Talent!

New Academic Year

As the new academic year approaches, we are delighted to welcome outstanding new teachers from different countries and regions across the globe. Their arrival not only injects fresh vitality and creativity into our campus, but also brings diverse cultural perspectives and a wealth of educational expertise.


Among these new members, some have taught for many years at world-renowned institutions, bringing with them rich academic foundations and international experience; others are full of passion and excel in inspiring pupils to think in innovative ways. Though their backgrounds and experiences differ, they share the same belief — to ignite pupils' curiosity with enthusiasm and to nurture each growing mind with patience.



As we embark on a new chapter, we will continue to uphold Wellington's vision of holistic education, integrating the finest elements of Eastern and Western pedagogy to provide a learning environment that is both rigorous and warm. Whether in academics, sports, or the arts, our teachers will accompany pupils with professionalism and sincerity, helping them to continually push beyond their limits and pursue their dreams with courage.


We extend a warm welcome to all the new teachers joining Wellington College Education (China) – Hangzhou, let us work hand in hand in the coming academic year to compose a brilliant chapter for every member of the Wellington community!

We are honoured to introduce some of our new teachers:





Lucy Fraser

Head of Primary - Wellington College International Hangzhou

Lucy is an experienced educator with over 20 years working in primary education. She grew up in Yorkshire and the Channel Islands and teaching in Brazil before university was her first experience of working in a school. 


After graduating with a degree in Economics from University College London, Lucy built a successful career in Public Relations, working at leading firms in London.  However, her interest in education and her fulfilling experience teaching in Brazil prompted her to change career paths. Lucy moved to Scotland and worked as a Teaching Assistant before completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in Primary Education at the University of Strathclyde. She then taught in Glasgow for three years.


Upon returning to London, she worked at Norland Place School, a Pre-Prep and Prep school in West London. Initially a class teacher, she became a member of the Senior Leadership Team in 2017 and Deputy Head in 2019. She was integral to the expansion of the school, the development of a strong team and effective operational procedures.


In the varied countries she has worked in, Lucy has taught a diverse range of pupils and gained invaluable experience living within with different cultures and communities. This exposure has enriched her understanding of education, which she continues to bring to her leadership and teaching practice. In her spare time she enjoys walking, cooking and learning about the history of different places.


James De Gazio

Director of Performing Arts

James has been dedicated to private, state and inner city education in performing arts for over 20 years. Before this James was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and Dalhousie University and worked in the entertainment industry for the BBC, ATV, CBC and Channel 4, has had his own radio program on CKDU 97.5fm. James was mentored by Alan Rickman and has trained with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company as well as working with Steven Berkoff and Richard Ryan. 


During his spare time James is an avid model maker, games designer, painter, an amateur astronomer, a passionate rockhound and an historical re-enactor.


Jacqueline Ferguson

Head of Art

Jacqueline Ferguson holds a Bachelor degree from University of Ulster and is a fully qualified Teacher of Art and Design with 15 years of teaching experience of IGCSE and A Level Art & Design as well as IB Visual Arts at Diploma level. Before coming to Hangzhou, she served as Head of the Art at several well-known international schools.


As an educator who sees every pupil as an individual with their own specific needs and goals as learners, pupils develop as critical thinkers who know how to improve. Exploring professional development with Lexis education on teaching ESL pupils enables her to develop a wealth of resources in supporting ESL learners to fully engage with the art curriculum. She supports each pupil to clearly communicate their artistic ideas to use visual expression to make a positive impact on the future.  By guiding pupils to make connections between both local and global cultural contexts, she enables pupils to explore their unique outcomes while exploring the wider world through art.


In her spare time, Jacqueline enjoys baking and spending time walking with her dog Trulio. She also loves kayaking having represented Ireland at previous European and World Championships events.


Annalisa Adams

Director of Pupil Support

Ms. Annalisa Adams, a graduate of the University of Sunderland, is an experienced education and inclusion leader with over two decades of expertise in creating supportive learning environments for pupils of all abilities. She has led teams of inclusion specialists, implementing comprehensive support strategies to ensure pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the guidance and resources they need to thrive.


Throughout her career, Annalisa has developed and delivered whole-school training on inclusive practices, equipping educators with tools to create accessible and engaging learning experiences. She has also worked closely with multidisciplinary teams to design individualized education plans, ensuring that pupils facing complex learning or mental health challenges receive the right support.


In leadership roles, she has been responsible for developing and overseeing inclusion and wellbeing initiatives, integrating safeguarding protocols, and utilizing psychometric assessments to tailor support strategies for pupils. Beyond her work in schools, Annalisa has contributed to international education projects, collaborating with global organizations to share best practices in inclusive teaching and pupil support.


Holding qualifications in educational testing and access arrangements, Annalisa takes a research-based approach to supporting pupil success. Her passion lies in fostering an inclusive school culture where every pupil is valued, empowered, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.


Victoria Walker

Assistant Head of Primary - Wellington College International Hangzhou

Victoria is an experienced teacher and middle leader, gaining her teaching qualifications from the prestigious Edinburgh University after completing a Masters in Philosophy and English Language. She is a passionate teacher with over a decade of experience and before joining Wellington College Education (China) was Year 6 Lead and Primary English Lead at a well-known international school in Shanghai, most recently earning a fellowship position within the FOBISIA community for her work on valuing culturally diverse learners.  


Victoria believes that children learn best when they are given ownership over their own learning and is passionate about creating engaging classroom environments where enquiry and research are at the heart of the learning experience. In her spare time, Victoria enjoys spending time with her family, visiting the gym and taking part in fitness challenges such as Spartan and Warrior races.


Louise Lu

Secondary Chinese Teacher

Louise holds a Master's degree in Education from the University of Hong Kong, specializing in Teaching Chinese Language and Literature in International Education, where she achieved outstanding academic results. While pursuing her graduate degree, she developed a profound understanding of the intricacies of teaching Chinese language and literature within international education contexts. 


Before joining Wellington College Education (China), she accumulated six years of teaching experience at high-quality public schools in Shanghai. During this time, she won a first prize in a district-level fundamental teaching skills competition for probationary teachers. She is a respected and beloved mentor to her pupils and a valuable asset to her team. Her Chinese classes are always vibrant and engaging. In her class, pupils not only gain knowledge but also develop their critical thinking skills, expand their global vision, and cultivate a passion for the Chinese language. 


Louise considers herself a lifelong learner, with a strong desire to continuously refine her professional skills and broaden her horizons in her teaching career. In her spare time, she pursues her passions for reading and literary creation. She also enjoys music and films, which consistently bring her happiness and comfort. Her personal motto, borrowed from George Bernard Shaw, is “Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself”.


Dongzhe Li

Secondary Mathematics Teacher

Dongzhe (Vader) is an accomplished International Curriculum Mathematics Teacher with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Warwick. With four years of teaching experience, he specializes in A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Physics, and has a proven track record of helping pupils achieve outstanding academic results. His pupils have gained admission to top universities such as the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, and University College London.


Dongzhe has taught at several prestigious institutions in Shanghai, where he developed tailored teaching materials using LaTeX and maintained high A-rate performance in his classes. Additionally, he has extensive experience in one-on-one tutoring, covering Math Olympiad coaching, university entrance exam preparation, and first-year university mathematics support.


Beyond teaching, he is passionate about creating precise mathematical diagrams using LaTeX and TikZ. His dedication to education and his pupils' success reflects his motto: "Stay hungry, stay foolish." In his spare time, he enjoys continuous learning and exploring new teaching methodologies.


Willow Chen

Secondary Physics Teacher

Willow holds a Master's degree in Comparative Education and International Development from the University of Edinburgh and has seven years of experience working in the international school sector. She previously served as Middle School Science Coordinator at a well-known international school. 


She holds a Chinese Senior High School Physics Teaching Certificate and is a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. Willow's teaching philosophy is encapsulated in the quote: "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand." She deeply believes that "education is the process of one cloud moving another," emphasizing the profound connection and mutual growth between educator and pupil, and she eagerly anticipates learning and growing alongside her students. 


In her spare time, Willow enjoys reading, exploring different cultures through travel, and engaging in outdoor activities. She is committed to being a lifelong learner, embracing the journey of education both inside and outside the classroom.


Ebon Trenchfield

English Teacher

Ebon has recently completed his NPQSL and obtained his PGCE from Bedfordshire University in 2011.  With well over a decade of educational experience, he most recently served as Head of EAL at HELP International School in Malaysia, following his role as Second-in-Department for English. His leadership also includes a prior Head of English position at another international school in Kuala Lumpur.


Ebon significantly contributed to his previous school by developing and implementing a cohesive EAL approach, collaborating across departments to ensure consistent pupil and family support. Key achievements include leading the development of the school-wide EAL policy and spearheading the successful accreditation process with Language for Results International, positioning his School as the first in Malaysia to achieve this. Alongside these leadership roles, Ebon has consistently guided his IGCSE and A Level English Language and Literature pupils to outstanding results.


Outside of work, Ebon is a passionate football player. In Malaysia, he played with and managed a diverse team of expatriates and Malaysians. He has a wide variety of hobbies, but reading, listening to music and regular gym visits are the ones he works hardest to find time for.


With a background in journalism and youth work, Ebon is a strong advocate for active, pupil-centred learning, known for building rapport with pupils and his (often questionable) dad jokes. His guiding principle is: "Be open to new experiences, make decisions based on evidence, and understand that if you don't ever fail, it might just mean you've not been ambitious enough."


Lingjue Wang 

Primary Teaching Assistant

Angela Wang graduated from University College London with a Master's degree in Primary Education (4-12) with Distinction. Prior to this, she graduated top of her major with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College. Angela holds the National Teaching Certificates for Kindergarten and Primary School Music.


Becoming a Primary Teaching Assistant in Hiba Academy Hangzhou is Angela's first job after graduation. Before that, she had rich internship experiences related to education. Angela once worked as a K1 and K3 teacher in the public kindergartens in Shanghai and Wuxi. She also served as a music teacher and an IELTS teaching assistant in the well-known training institutions. It is precisely these extensive practical experiences that have shaped her unique educational philosophy and teaching style. Angela believes that every pupil's voice deserves to be heard and valued. Therefore, she strongly embraces the child-centered teaching approach. By fostering an inclusive and inspiring classroom environment, she aims to unlock pupils' potential and cultivate their lifelong passion for learning.


In her spare time, she loves travelling, photography, reading and playing the violin.
