This academic year has been a huge success for Sport at Wellington College Education (China) - Hangzhou, with our sports programme expanding significantly with much greater success in competitions both in China and internationally.
This year, we have established our 1st Wellington Lions Golf team, which took part in a three-day FOBISIA golf event in Bangkok after the Chinese New Year. Our team was incredible, with our Girls finishing 2nd overall in the team competition with Sunny, Jenny and Belle all winning awards in their age group competitions.
We have also had another incredible year in the pool, which was rounded off with an amazing Wellington Cup event hosted at the Hangzhou Olympic Aquatics Centre in June, with teams from all around Asia attending.
As a team, we excelled both inside and outside the pool, finishing as the highest-performing team on the day and being crowned overall champions. Other significant achievements this year include winning the high point average at FOBISIA Swimming in Thailand and becoming champions of the Mixed Duet at the 18th Singapore Open in Artistic Swimming.
From a primary perspective, we have significantly expanded our provision this year, increasing our primary pupil engagement in sport by over 30% and fixtures by over 50%. We also attended the FOBISIA Games U11 for the first time in Thailand, where we were champions of Tee Ball and finished second in a highly competitive athletics event.
Domestically, we have also made significant progress in our primary teams with our U11 Girls and Boys winning silverware in various Hangzhou competitions, including the Wellington Football Cup, which we hosted early in the year.
Our Senior School teams have continued to develop a winning culture and continue to dominate events across Hangzhou in a variety of sports and age groups.
Most notably, Dora and Ajazkhan winning Gold for U19 Badminton in the Hangzhou Championships, U14 Boys and Girls Football and Basketball teams winning multiple gold medals across a variety of events in Football and Basketball, and also dominating both Cross Country and Athletics with many school records broken and gold medals won.
On an international scale, our U13 FOBISIA squad came 2nd overall in the FOBISIA Games in Thailand, which was a significant improvement on our previous results at this highly prestigious event against the top schools across Asia.
The 2025-26 academic year is set to be even more exciting and successful than this year, with many incredible ideas in the planning which fall in line with our ambition for sport here at Wellington College Education (China) - Hangzhou.
