On Friday 11th April, our school campus came alive with energy, enthusiasm and the spirit of competition as we celebrated Senior Sports Day. Blessed with sunshine and smiles, the day was a testament to the dedication and passion our pupils have for sport and teamwork.
The morning kicked off with a variety of sports tournaments, allowing pupils to participate in activities they had chosen beforehand. Options included football, volleyball, basketball, swimming, badminton, athletics and a fun games category featuring frisbee, dodgeball and relay races. Each event was a great success, with pupils not only showcasing their athletic abilities but also embodying our school values of integrity, responsibility and kindness in competitive settings.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the Athletics Track Meet, which featured thrilling races such as the 100m, 200m, 800m and the 4x100m relay. Despite the exhaustion from the morning's events, our pupils rose to the challenge, demonstrating remarkable courage and perseverance. Standout performances included Reese S's impressive 24.6-second finish in the 200m, Joey Z's sub-12-second sprint in the 100m and several record-breaking achievements in the girls' races.
However, the true highlight of the day was the way our pupils embraced the event with love, commitment and an unwavering passion for sport. Despite the sweltering heat, their dedication and resilience shone through as they gave their best effort in every activity. Senior Sports Day was more than just a display of physical prowess; it was a celebration of teamwork, perseverance and the indomitable spirit of our school community.
Congratulations to everyone who participated and made the day such a memorable success!

Recently, both Hiba Academy Hangzhou and Wellington College International Hangzhou were nothing short of extraordinary as our primary schools came alive with the vibrant energy of Sports Week. This annual event, a cornerstone of our school calendar, was a heartfelt celebration of sports, community and our school. Over three exhilarating days, pupils, parents and staff came together to create an atmosphere brimming with warmth, inclusivity and joy. It was a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing an environment where every individual feels valued, supported and inspired to shine.
At the heart of Primary Sports Week was our unwavering focus on the school ethos and values: respect, kindness, integrity, courage and responsibility. These principles were not just words on a page but lived experiences that shaped the spirit of each day. From the youngest pupils to the most seasoned staff members, everyone demonstrated these values in action. Respect was evident in the way pupils cheered for their peers, regardless of house or team. Kindness shone through in the encouraging words shared between competitors. Integrity was upheld in the fair play displayed across every event. Courage was seen in the pupils who stepped out of their comfort zones to try something new, and responsibility was embodied by the staff and parents who worked tirelessly to ensure the week's success. Together, these values cultivated a sense of unity and belonging that resonated throughout the entire community.
The astroturf sports field, one of our school's magnificent facilities, was transformed into a bustling arena of excitement and camaraderie. Carefully selected activities ensured that the week was not only fun but also challenging and inclusive, allowing every pupil to showcase their individuality and house spirit. The sea of house colours—red, blue, green and yellow—was a visual reminder of our dedication to fostering a strong house culture. This sense of belonging was palpable as pupils rallied together, cheering each other on with infectious enthusiasm. The spirit of sportsmanship was alive and well, with every participant embracing the joy of competition while celebrating the achievements of their peers.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the week was the overwhelming turnout of our supportive parents and the Friends of Wellington (FOW). Their presence was a powerful reminder of the deep connection between our school and the wider community. Parents not only cheered from the sidelines but also eagerly participated in friendly competitions, adding an extra layer of fun and laughter to the proceedings. These moments of shared joy highlighted the strong partnership between our school and families, a partnership rooted in a shared commitment to nurturing happy, confident and well-rounded children.
Primary Sports Week was more than just a celebration of sports; it was a celebration of our school, our community and the incredible potential of every individual. It was a reminder that, in nurturing environments like ours, children are empowered to grow not only as athletes but as compassionate, resilient and responsible individuals. The week's success was a reflection of the collective effort of everyone involved—pupils, parents and staff—all united by a shared vision of creating a supportive, inclusive and joyful experience for all.
As the final cheers echoed across the sports field and the last medals were awarded, there was a sense of pride and fulfilment that lingered in the air. Sports Week had once again proven to be a highlight of the school year, a time when our community came together to celebrate the very best of what we stand for. Here's to many more years of laughter, camaraderie and shared achievements at Hiba Academy Hangzhou and Wellington College International Hangzhou.
Behind the scenes, the dedication of our staff was nothing short of remarkable. Classroom teachers and members of the Senior Leadership Team were on hand throughout the week, offering encouragement and support to pupils. The Facilities and Operations teams worked tirelessly to ensure that the environment was safe, clean and fit for purpose, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the festivities. Meanwhile, the Marketing team captured countless precious moments—smiling faces, triumphant finishes and heartwarming interactions—that will be treasured by pupils and parents for years to come.
A special mention must go to the PE and Swimming Team, whose passion and expertise were the driving force behind the week's success. From planning and organising the events to ensuring that every detail was executed flawlessly, their hard work and dedication created three unforgettable days for our pupils and parents. Their commitment to fostering a love of sports and physical activity is a cornerstone of our school's approach to holistic education.
