Welcoming the Spring Festival — Chinese New Year Celebration

The Lunar New Year is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. This year, our Wellington Primary School has meticulously planned a unique celebration event, bringing a rich cultural feast to teachers, pupils and parents.
The campus was filled with a festive atmosphere. Teachers and pupils wore colourful traditional costumes, brimming with the New Year's spirit. Prior to the official start, our Murray House organised a charity raffle, spreading love and warmth. This event not only added to the cosy festival ambience but also allowed everyone to experience the satisfaction of helping others through charitable actions.
The dragon and lion dance performance at the beginning brought everyone's excitement to a peak. The professional team displayed exquisite skills with agile and lifelike movements, earning rounds of applause and cheers.
Next, the showcase of traditional folk arts took the event to another climax. The superb skills in diabolo spinning, the marvellous act of jar-balancing acrobatics, and the magical mask-changing in Sichuan Opera captivated the pupils' attention. Each performance showcased the unique charm of traditional Chinese arts, opening the pupils' eyes to new wonders.
Meanwhile, the pupils eagerly participated in the performances. They thoughtfully presented wonderful traditional music and dance performances. Each melodious song conveyed their best wishes and heartfelt sentiments for the New Year.
Following the performances, there were even more engaging segments. The FOW team invited parent volunteers and folk artists to set up booths, allowing pupils to experience various intangible cultural heritage. Paper art, paper cutting, writing spring couplets and clay figurine making—each booth was surrounded by enthusiastic pupils. They used their hands to feel the charm of traditional crafts, planting seeds of love for traditional culture in their hearts.
Finally, cheerful music echoed in every corner of the campus, and the pupils' happy laughter intertwined, bringing the entire event to a warm and joyful conclusion. Through this colourful Chinese New Year celebration, it not only strengthened the pupils’ sense of identity and pride in traditional Chinese culture but also allowed them to gain knowledge and make unforgettable memories during the festive period.
On this special day, we enjoyed spending time together, wishing that each pupil would remember this day and that each soul would find their own cultural identity and pride amidst the blend of tradition and modernity.
