A Look Back at a Productive Year with FOW
How time flies! We are now approaching the end of a fulfilling and dynamic term. With the support of the school, teachers and parents, the Friends of Wellington (FOW) has actively fulfilled its duties, creating an excellent environment for our pupils to learn and thrive. As we review and summarise the activities and initiatives undertaken by FOW this term, we draw on past experiences to shape an even better future.
To start with, we hosted coffee mornings and Mid-Autumn gatherings at the Hiba and Wellington on the 2nd and 11th of September respectively. The purpose of these events was to introduce FOW, its past activities, and its roles and responsibilities to our parent volunteers.
On Teachers' Day, the 10th of September, FOW presented the school staff with succulent plants to commemorate this special occasion and to express our gratitude for the teachers' hard work and dedication.
We have been hosting monthly Wellington TALK on diverse topics. Our past sessions included NUS Alumni Stories in Singapore on 26th September, The Development and Application of Exoskeleton Robots on 17th October, Choosing a Major from a Career Development Perspective on 7th November, and The Musical Path of a Doctor-Pianist on 12th December.
FOW have also organised parent workshops themed around festivals. This included a Halloween-themed activity, and a Jiuxi hiking event during the Minor Snow solar term, when it was still warm, attended by James, Ms Zhao and parent representatives, strengthening communication and interaction within our Wellington community. In the romantic, red-themed month of December during the Christmas season, our workshops featured a Christmas decoration DIY activity. As we welcomed the New Year, the FOW Hiking Club organised a New Year's hike themed New Year's Blessings, which took us from Faxi Temple to Lingshun Temple.
FOW have shown outstanding support to the school, notably by aiding the Diwali celebrations on 25th October and the Halloween activities on 4th November. We also participated in the Wellington Charity Flea Market, the Winter Fair and the Chinese New Year festivities. At the Flea Market, FOW second-hand school uniforms and custom-made merchandise were enthusiastically received by parents, contributing to the commendable cause of environmental sustainability. Parent volunteers showcased their care and creativity by managing 11 stalls at the Winter Fair, adding a distinctive charm to the event. During the annual Chinese New Year celebrations, class parent volunteers demonstrated remarkable ingenuity by organising 34 culturally rich and engaging activities. This allowed the children to enjoy a memorable Spring Festival filled with laughter and joy, while experiencing a vibrant festive atmosphere within the school.
Looking back on this term, every action by FOW is imbued with the wisdom and warmth of parent-school collaboration. Looking ahead, we will continue to join hands and move forward, paving a warmer path for the children's growth.
