Our Houses' Charitable Efforts: Making a Difference Together
Benson House
and Hangzhou Animal Shelter
Benson House has chosen to support the Hangzhou Animal Shelter, a vital organisation dedicated to the care of abandoned animals. The importance of such a shelter cannot be overstated. Abandoned animals often face harsh conditions, malnutrition and lack of medical care. By providing a safe haven, the Hangzhou Animal Shelter not only saves lives but also improves the wellbeing of these animals, offering them a chance to be adopted into loving homes.
To support this worthy cause, Benson House participated in a Halloween event where they created and sold toys. The event was a successful fundraising effort, blending creativity and community involvement to generate much-needed funds for the shelter.
Combermere House
and Tang Mama Charity
Combermere House has joined forces with Tang Mama, an outstanding charity dedicated to an essential cause – providing jerry cans to children in rural China who lack access to clean drinking water. Access to clean water is crucial for health, education and overall quality of life. Without it, children are at risk of waterborne diseases, which can have devastating effects on their development and wellbeing.
To raise money for Tang Mama, Combermere House ran stalls and games during the Parent Teacher Conferences. They sold delicious cookies and organised an engaging game of guessing how many sweets were in a jar. These activities not only raised funds but also heightened awareness about the essential work of Tang Mama.
Hardinge House and UNICEF
Hardinge House set up stalls at both the Wellington Flea Market and the Christmas Fair where they sold donated toys to raise money for UNICEF. UNICEF, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, works tirelessly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, help meet their basic needs and expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. The funds raised by Hardinge House contribute to UNICEF’s wide range of programmes, addressing urgent issues such as children's health, education and emergency relief.
Future Initiatives:
Murray House and Raglan House
Looking ahead, Murray House is preparing to have a stall at the Chinese New Year Fair to raise money for China International Concern. China International Concern is an organisation committed to providing care and support for children with disabilities in China. They focus on providing medical care, therapy and education to improve the quality of life for these children. By raising funds for China International Concern, Murray House is helping to ensure that these vulnerable children receive the necessary support to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Raglan House is set to pair up with Roots & Shoots Shanghai, an organisation founded by the renowned primatologist Jane Goodall. Roots & Shoots focuses on youth-led community action and environmental projects.
They work to empower young people to implement practical and impactful solutions to improve the world around them. The collaboration with Roots & Shoots Shanghai is intended to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. Raglan House will lead a project that focuses on recycling art, turning recyclable materials into creative artwork. This initiative not only aims to raise funds but also to educate and inspire the community about the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness.
The collective efforts of Benson, Combermere, Hardinge, Murray and Raglan Houses exemplify the power of community and collaboration in making a positive impact. Through their dedication and hard work, these houses are supporting vital causes and making a real difference in the lives of animals, children and the environment. As they continue to champion various charities, they set a remarkable example for us all to follow.
