On November 11th, Wellington College International Hangzhou observed Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I and honouring all those who have served in the armed forces. This day holds profound significance for our school community, representing a solemn tribute to the men and women whose bravery and sacrifices have ensured the peace and freedom we enjoy today.
Leading up to Armistice Day, pupils engaged in detailed history lessons about World War I, gaining a deeper understanding of the immense challenges and the sheer scale of the conflict. Through these lessons, pupils developed a heightened sense of respect for those who fought and fell during the war. This deepened historical perspective enriched the pupils' appreciation for its significance, culminating in a powerful and reflective minute of silence during the day.
Respect is one of the core values we uphold at Wellington, and respect for the fallen soldiers is something that resonates deeply within all our pupils. This reverence was palpable during the minute silence observed at 11:00am. Pupils and teachers alike stood resolute and contemplated the sacrifices made by so many. This collective act of remembrance not only honoured the past but also reinforced the importance of showing respect in all aspects of our lives.
Courage is a value we hold dear at Wellington. As pupils reflected on the courage demonstrated by soldiers who faced terrifying circumstances, many felt a profound emotional connection to those who had perished. It was with a tear and a deep sense of empathy that the pupils remembered these courageous individuals, recognising that their bravery continues to inspire us to face our own challenges with fortitude and resolve.
In our commitment to these values, our school community strives to embody the lessons learned from history. The observance of Armistice Day at Wellington was not just a commemorative event but a reaffirmation of our dedication to honouring the past through respect and courage, ensuring that the legacy of those who sacrificed their lives will never be forgotten.
