Wellington House Competitions are in Full Effect!
One of the cornerstone traditions at Wellington is its unique house system, designed to nurture a strong sense of community and belonging among pupils. Modelled after the successful house system at Wellington College UK, it divides the pupil body into smaller houses to encourage collaboration, healthy competition, and peer support across different age groups.
At Wellington College International Hangzhou, we have chosen to use some of the most storied and prestigious Houses which are The Benson, Raglan, Murray, Combermere and Hardinge for our pupils. Each of these Houses has a rich and deep history. Participation in these Houses helps our pupils become a part of the Wellington story and builds a strong connection between them and Wellington pupils around the world.
Each House is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress ably assisted by House Tutors and other house staff. The house staff leads house assemblies and engender a sense of belonging, community and pride in their House. Members of each House grow to believe that their House is the best! Siblings always join the same house and over time the children’s families will develop close relationships with the Houses and contribute to the nature of the House.
Each house participates in various academic, athletic and social activities, promoting leadership and teamwork through vertical alignment, and allowing pupils from different grades to work together. The Head of House system specifically fosters pupil leadership, offering pupils opportunities to lead and mentor their peers. Each house works together to achieve common service-learning and or sustainable goals and drives the values they hold most dearest to them. This system not only enhances school spirit but also helps build lasting relationships and personal development.

At Wellington College International Hangzhou, we believe that our pupils' growth extends far beyond the classroom. That is why our House events are integral to our school community, fostering a spirit of unity, creativity and innovation among our young learners.
House Singing Competition
Our recent House singing competition was a magnificent display of talent and teamwork. Pupils united within their Houses, discovering the joy of collaboration and the importance of supporting one another. This event not only enhanced their musical skills but also strengthened the bonds of friendship and camaraderie.
House Art Competition
We also celebrated our school values with a House art competition. This creative endeavour provided an opportunity for our pupils to express their artistic talents while contemplating and representing our core values. The result was a stunning array of artwork that highlighted each pupil's unique perspective and reinforced the principles we hold dear. Through art and other creative projects centred on our school's values, pupils internalise and represent the principles that guide our community. This reinforces a shared sense of purpose and ethical grounding.
Stop-Motion Movie Competition
We were thrilled to host this stop-motion movie competition! This event was an exhilarating journey into the world of EdTech. Pupils harnessed their creativity and technological skills and produced imaginative films whilstgained valuable experience in planning, storytelling and digital media. In our digital age, proficiency in EdTech is crucial. By engaging in projects like the stop-motion movie competition, pupils enhance their technical skills and become more adept at using modern technology. The event culminated in an awards night in the WCH Grand Theatre.
House events teach children the importance of working together towards a common goal. They learn to appreciate diverse perspectives and to support their peers, which are essential life skills. These competitions provide a platform for pupils to express themselves creatively. This not only boosts their confidence but also helps them explore and develop their unique talents.
At Wellington International Hangzhou, our House events are more than just competitions; they are a celebration of our pupils' diverse abilities and a testament to our commitment to fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and supportive learning environment. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication our pupils have shown and eagerly anticipate the many accomplishments yet to come. Let us continue to inspire, create and unite!
