During this exciting term-long school activity, the pupils of the Sports Journalism SA had the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of journalism and learn about the various roles within the industry. We particularly enjoyed learning about the art of taking visually appealing sports photos and capturing exciting video footage for sports events. The lessons on successful interview techniques and how to write engaging written reports of sports matches and events were also incredibly informative and useful for our future pursuits in journalism.

In a fun and collaborative class project, we took on the roles of sports journalists for a whole school sporting event. This allowed us to put our newly acquired skills to the test and collectively write a report on the event.

The pinnacle of our school activity was the creation of a visually stunning and engaging pupil-made sports magazine. We worked together over several lessons, applying all the skills and techniques we had learnt throughout the term. Pupils were all elated to see their hard work culminate in the publication of a sports magazine and felt proud to showcase their newfound skills in sports journalism.

Overall, this school activity was a fantastic opportunity for children to gain valuable experience in sports journalism while also working collaboratively, improving their research and writing skills, and most importantly, having fun in the process.

Knowing they are fortunate enough to be able to partake in such a wide variety of sports at Wellington, pupils finally decided on a charity to campaign for that would bring about awareness for disabled children who are not lucky enough to be able to take part in sports in the same way.

In reflecting on the impressive journey of the Sports Journalism SA, it is clear how well it aligns with the vision and values of Wellington College Hangzhou. As a school committed to holistic development and community engagement, this initiative encapsulates these principles. By involving pupils in the dynamism of sports journalism, we not only empower them with practical skills but also instil in them the values of teamwork, creativity and social responsibility. The collaborative effort in producing the sports magazine exemplifies the spirit of unity and achievement that permeates our school ethos. Moreover, the decision to support a charity advocating for disabled children's access to sports underscores our commitment to inclusivity and compassion.

Through such co-curricular activities, Wellington College Hangzhou continues to inspire its pupils to pursue excellence while remaining grounded in empathy and integrity, shaping them into well-balanced individuals poised to make a positive impact in the world.
