Last week, Year 4 and Grade 5 pupils at Wellington College Hangzhou had the pleasure of hosting John and Annie from the Tang Mama Charity. The focus of their visit was the impactful clean water project involving the creation of Lifesaver jerrycans. These innovative containers effectively filter contaminated water from rivers, transforming it into safe and clean drinking water. Tang Mama Charity distributes these jerrycans to children in rural China, addressing the critical issue of waterborne illnesses resulting from the unavailability of clean water. This enables the children to have clean water for three years.

During the visit, John and Annie conducted a demonstration for the pupils, showcasing the functionality of the Lifesaver Jerrycan. They illustrated how the jerrycan efficiently turns dirty water into clean, potable water within minutes. The pupils were captivated by the simplicity and convenience of the Lifesaver jerrycans, expressing enthusiasm about the positive impact it could have on the living conditions of their peers in rural areas.

Educational significance

The visit served not only as an educational experience but also as a source of inspiration for the children. The Lifesaver jerrycans project seamlessly connected with the Year 4 and Grade 5 water and rivers topics, providing a tangible and real-life dimension to their studies. The pupils engaged actively, posing insightful questions about the mechanics of the jerrycans and expressing a genuine interest in supporting the Tang Mama Foundation's mission of providing clean water to those in need.

Empowering service initiatives

Motivated by John and Annie's impactful work, the pupils at Wellington College Hangzhou are keen to initiate a service project within the school. The objective is to raise funds that will contribute to the Tang Mama Foundation's noble cause. These small acts of kindness have the potential to make a significant difference, bringing clean water to more children in rural China.

A call to community support

In conclusion, the visit by John and Annie from Tang Mama Charity stands out as a profound experience for the pupils at Wellington College Hangzhou. It served as a lesson in empathy and inspiration, showcasing the commitment of individuals dedicated to improving the lives of children in rural China. We hope more people in our community will support this meaningful cause, contributing to Tang Mama's commendable efforts in providing clean water to children in need.
