How do we teach pupils responsibility at WCH
Wellington Values – Responsibility
In retrospect, the last few years posed great challenges to the world because of the COVID 19 pandemic, and it was true for education undertaking as well. When teaching and learning moved online as the face-to-face mode was no longer possible, pupils learned from home, and teachers strived to provide quality education online. What was it that motivated our teachers to continue? The answer lies in one of our Wellington values - Responsibility.
With pupils’ benefit in mind, as always, teachers at Wellington College Hangzhou overcame challenges during that time. Risking being infected, they stayed in their post, strongly committed to education. Even feeling under the weather after being infected, they worked hard to present the best of themselves for online teaching. All their work is to guarantee our quality educational provision. Their commitment and devotion are worthy of our compliment and memory.
There is a saying in China that goes, “It takes ten years to grow a tree but a hundred years to cultivate people”. A responsible teacher shapes the life journey of a pupil in many ways. Teachers do not only teach; they also lead and guide. Books don't give children a proper understanding of responsibility; it is the teachers they spend time with every day, leading by example, that will provide children with a deeper understanding of responsibility.
Months ago, when we joined hands in fighting COVID 19, we yearned for a warm and carefree spring. Now as spring embraces Hangzhou city with its enchanting blossoms and tender vitality, we would like to pay a special tribute to each teacher at our campus for their unwavering commitment to high-quality teaching during this uncertain time and to each parent for their ongoing support of our adapted teaching arrangement. We firmly believe that in this rapidly progressing world where artificial intelligence brings massive innovation, responsibility will continue to be one of the core qualities for one to be successful. Our teachers and pupils will always uphold responsibility, courage, integrity, kindness and responsibility, and join hands to embrace any challenges head-on in this everchanging world.
