Exploring potential and new possibilities at Wellington

21 Sep 2022

The CCA programme at Wellington is designed to meet the various demands of our pupils. It is central to the educational philosophy at Wellington College International Hangzhou and provides our pupils with ample opportunities to expand new horizons, discover their interests and pursue them with passion.

Core to the CCA programme is our After-School Activities (ASA). These activities take place at the end of the school day and offer pupils a wide range of choices that allow them to extend and challenge their learning and development whilst also creating opportunities to nurture talent and foster excellence in fields in which they have an interest or passion.

All Wellington College International Hangzhou SAs belong to one of the four categories, and each category helps pupils develop specific skills and abilities.

Academic

Academic SAs enhance curriculum learning by offering a range of opportunities for participants to apply their academic knowledge and skills in new, exciting and novel ways. Some examples of Academic SAs include stock trading, debating, Dukebox radio club, LAMDA, Olympic Maths, American mathematics competitions, science club, and also programming activities designed for pupils from primary and above pupils at the different programming levels, such as DJI Robomaster, Swift playground, Python and Scratch. Other academic SAs include the Duke of Edinburgh Award and China Model United Nations, which offer children opportunities to engage with local and global issues to want to serve the community and strive for improvement. As a result, they develop teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving and communication skills, a sense of compassion, empowerment and a broader scale of thinking.

Creative

Creative SAs are opportunities that demand creative thinking and creative skills. They enhance pupils’ ability to make connections, ask questions, and observe the world around them to discover new and exciting ways of doing things. Examples include 3D art and sculpture, baking and embroidery.

Performing arts

Performing arts SAs offer various extra-curricular opportunities to extend pupils’ talents and broaden their abilities. These activities give opportunities for pupils to showcase their skills and serve as crucial building blocks in developing the confidence, mindfulness and courage required for success in all aspects of life. In addition, there are the orchestra, band, choir, musical production, tap dance and traditional Chinese dance.

Physical

Skills developed during physical SAs include teamwork, hand-eye coordination and communication, a sense of fair play, resilience, and leadership. In addition, encouraging our children to take up physical activities as hobbies is essential to helping them grow into healthy adults. Our list of physical SAs is extensive. Apart from track and field sports and ball games, there are also appealing chances to experience ultimate frisbee, golf, archery, and synchronised swimming.

The CCA programme at Wellington is intended to be enjoyable for pupils and present personal challenges that will lead to growth. We encourage pupils to enjoy various opportunities to enhance individual and interpersonal skills and general life experience.
