The Week Ahead
Senior School Matters
I am immensely proud of the reputation that our excellent school has already developed and continues to grow. Not only are we becoming well established as the international school of first choice in Hangzhou, but I am delighted that Wellington College International Hangzhou is firmly associated with an education which prides itself on having academic excellence at its core. But, of course, we recognise that a top education doesn't come without world class pastoral care and opportunities for pupil growth of skills, network development and leadership opportunities.
However, the fundamental idea that were turn to always is one of driving each pupil to achieve at the most outstanding level. The Senior School teaching team has, at the heart of all we do, an unfailing desire and passion for delivering excellent teaching which supports all pupils to achieve their academic potential. Our teachers are subject specialists, each an expert in their teaching field. We select only the best and most appropriate courses for pupil learning, then deploy the best in modern and research led pedagogy. Our mission is to ensure that each pupil receives the correct level of support and challenge they need to help mark outa successful pathway for each of their learning journeys.
How impactful is our quest for academic excellence? Only time will tell, but the early indicators are strong. For example, 100% of our Wellingtonians secured an A* (the top mark) in their early entry IGCSE Maths exams taken this summer. Please join me in congratulating the Year 10 pupils who secured these most impressive results. We are quietly confident of a strong exam performance next year, which will further help to develop our standing as the leading school in the city and region.

Sixth Form Matters
We will be hosting a session with Molly Hammond, a University of Oxford Physics student, on Thursday, 22 September. From 3:15pm–4:00pm. She has completed the first year of her studies and will be giving a presentation on what she did during high school, how she prepared for her application and interview and what life is like as a student in Oxford. As a former student of mine, I am proud of Molly's achievements so far and am excited to see what lies ahead in her future.

Performing Arts Matters
"Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without." – Confucius.
Performing arts is at the heart of the holistic education we proudly offer at Wellington College International Hangzhou. Working with parents and teachers, we ensure our pupils access excellent opportunities to develop a love for the arts.
Our performing arts SAs have commenced. Over 90 pupils work with our skillful and talented teachers across the campus every week, developing skills in music, dance, and drama.
We will host our first piano competition at Wellington College International Hangzhou this year. We are requesting pianists of all levels to start practising and polishing their skills to participate in this event. Save the date for Thursday, 10November.
At Wellington College Hangzhou, we currently offer piano and violin lessons with two outstanding visiting teachers. You will shortly receive information about the application process. Please note that we offer these lessons mainly to pupils in boarding and those who live close to school.
Finally, we know that our pupils also participate in competitions and events outside the school. Please feel free to share with us any participation and successes. We want to celebrate and recognise their efforts and passions.
