The Week Ahead
Whole School Matters
One of our many strengths at Wellington College International Hangzhou is our commitment to forging strong ties with our parents, our community and all stakeholders in our school. I have had a fantastic time this week meeting with our newly appointed Parent Representatives for each form group. The role of Parent Rep is to provide a clear point of contact from the parent body to me, and vice versa, so that we can always have clear and easy communication. The Parent Reps and I met over a coffee to discuss school growth, future plans, our strategic vision for the school and to identify any areas of development which were currently on their minds. Watch this space for some helpful and hopefully appreciated developments stemming from these discussions in the near future.
The first meeting of our newly established Food Committee also took place this week. I understand the discussion was fruitful and I hear that those parents who took up our Catering Managers offer of eating their lunch in the canteen with our pupils afterwards were more than satisfied.
And finally, we look ahead to our Friends of Wellington coffee morning which is taking place next week. Di Kang, our outgoing FoW Vice Chair, will be speaking alongside the Head of School about the important role that the FoW serve is in terms of community engagement and parent participation in the wider life of the school. We hope as many of you can join us at the coffee morning as possible.

University Pathways presentation
Applying to university is often the final stage in a long process that begins much earlier for an individual. There are many steps along the way including recognising one’s own strengths, researching interesting courses as well as choosing a location and institution. At Wellington College Hangzhou Sixth Form we are well equipped and informed to help your child find their best suited higher education option. I would like to invite you to a University Pathways presentation on Thursday 28 October from 2:00pm - 3:00pm at the Atrium of Wellington College International Hangzhou to share with you details of all the support your child will receive on their journey to higher education.
Please click here register and RSVP to the event.

Sport Matters
This week our boys basketball players competed in the U16 basketball competition against Olive Tree. The boys played extremely well, displaying courage and determination against the stronger team. We are proud of our pupils taking the opportunity to represent our school with a fine performance of skill and sportsmanship. This Saturday, Wellington College International Hangzhou pupils will participate in the swimming competition at King’s College Hangzhou. I believe every pupil will perform at their best.

Performing Art Matters
We welcome our new visiting teachers Ms. Elsa and Mr. Sun.
Ms. Elsa is an outstanding pianist and teacher with experience in Chinese piano examinations and ABRSM. Mr. Sun is a fantastic violinist and teacher who has experience with several orchestras. We strongly believe they will add incredible value to our performing arts and music programme. Both teachers are established artists in Hangzhou who will permeate their love for music to our pupils.
If you are interested in taking instrumental lessons with these teachers or would like to apply for instrumental lessons, please contact me directly for more information (alejandro.montoya@huilieducation.cn).
After the fabulous success of our first ever musical “Madagascar Jr.”, we are pleased to announce this year’s musical production: “Seussical Jr.” a musical comedy based on the many children’s stories of Dr Seuss, with most of its plot being based on “Horton Hears a Who!” while incorporating many other stories.

Director of Performing Arts
Rehearsals for the winter events are underway in WCIH, and pupils are getting excited for the final performances. All pupils from Year 1- 11 will be performing, which creates an exciting collaborative event.
In drama, an exciting event is in preparation for Year 8 and 9, which will be performed later on in the year. Performance opportunities for pupils are a great way to develop transferable skills such as communication and teamwork, as well as developing our key values; courage, integrity, kindness, respect and responsibility.
In SA’s, the rehearsals for ‘Seussical Jr’ have commenced, with pupils learning some key songs and choreography. The performing arts teachers are very excited to be working with a talented cast.

Community Events
On Saturday the staff football team competed in the British Chamber 7-aside Football Competition hosted in Shanghai. The competition was hugely competitive with twenty four teams entering. Our staff team were the overall winners of the tournament beating Wellington College Shanghai in the final (4-0). Nathan Witter, our Director of Sport was also nominated player of the tournament. This was a fantastic result for our school and we hope to emulate it in next year’s competition.

Service Matters
I would like to thank the three parents who volunteered to become parent representatives for the Wellington College International Hangzhou Food Committee. They represent parents for Year 1 to Year 3, Year 4 to Year 6, and Year 7 and above respectively. The first food committee meeting took place on Monday morning with parent and academic representatives, the school operations team and Sodexo team all in attendance. All the questions regarding the catering service were discussed and Parents representatives also took the opportunity to observe lunch service and enjoy some lunch after the meeting. Please click here to view full details of the meeting minutes.
The Food Committee is committed to connecting parents to the catering provider to create a platform to discuss any issues identified relating to the catering services and improve the communication between the Wellington community on food safety and variety. If you have any questions or suggestions about the catering services, please contact us directly by service.wich@wellingtoncollege.cn or pass them on to the parent representatives and we will discuss them in our next meeting.
