The Week Ahead
Whole School Matters
Two weeks into the new academic year and our pupils are fully focussed on their learning. We offer a British-style education constructed around the world class British curriculum. Our medium of instruction is English and our end goal is to develop and prepare our pupils for the rigorous and demanding A Level programme in our Sixth Form, whilst ensuring they have the skills and abilities necessary to get the most out of their university studies at the most prestigious and best institutions the around the world.
Pupils will sit IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11, and our expert teachers are free to select the strongest resources from around the world to support learning. Likewise with our teaching styles, our highly experienced teaching team utilise strategies from the most current research led practice to maximise their impact and ensure that the vital skills for the future such as creative problem solving and critical thinking are embedded throughout.
Our teaching philosophy is one that is rooted in excellence and ambitions of success for all. The British curriculum is varied and broad, offering the flexibility to provide individualised pathways for every pupil. In an international setting this is of vital importance as it enables us to accommodate learners from a range of different starting positions and backgrounds, safe in the knowledge that every single pupil will maximise attainment and secure academic success.
I am immensely proud of our excellent British curriculum and have absolute confidence in our expert teachers and their ability to ensure that each pupil will flourish during their time at Wellington College International Hangzhou.

Sport Matters
Pupils began the school activities programme this week. This programme gives our school the perfect opportunity to practice sports for competitions against other schools. Players represent the school when they compete against other schools in fixtures and competitions. Competing against other schools allows our pupils to model the values they have learned and practised in school and training sessions. Wellington prides itself in producing not only top quality athletes, but athletes with a sense of pride, respect and integrity.
During PE lessons pupils prepared themselves for the house ‘Endzone’ competition. The game is similar to Ultimate Frisbee, but players throw a ball instead of a frisbee. The school house system is an excellent way for pupils, of mixed age groups and levels of experience to collaborate to represent their house in sports. The house sports programme is inclusive and provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to increase skills while learning fair play and respect for peers.

Performing Arts Matters
School Activities commenced this week – time allocated for pupils to select and develop their passions. For those wanting to pursue Performing Arts, Wellington College Hangzhou offer a wide variety of opportunities: Dance groups, Choirs, Orchestra, Chamber ensembles, Bands, DJ skills and acting skills. These pursuits allow pupils to develop their confidence and independence as well as their collaborative skills and creativity – everything they will need to succeed in any and all avenues of life that they choose after their educational journey at Wellington College International Hangzhou. We look forward to welcoming and driving our young performers to be the very best they can be.
