Last week, 17 of our school's swimming pupils travelled to Phuket, Thailand, to compete in one of the largest and most competitive British international school swimming events in Asia — the FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Swimming Championships. Bringing together 26 leading British international schools from across the region, the event was a true test of both skill and resilience, and a valuable opportunity for our pupils to compete on the international stage alongside the very best.

Against strong opposition, our pupils demonstrated composure, determination and exceptional performance, achieving an outstanding set of results: 34 gold medals, 23 silver medals and 16 bronze medals. Even more impressively, the team broke 19 official FOBISIA records during the competition — a remarkable achievement that rewrote history and showcased the speed, strength and excellence of Wellington pupils on the international stage.

For the second consecutive year, our swimming team was also awarded the title of Average Point Champions, meaning our pupils achieved the highest average score per athlete among all 26 participating schools. This honour reflects not just individual brilliance, but the depth, balance and consistency of our entire team — a true embodiment of collective excellence.

In individual events, our pupils continued to shine: Emily X. placed 1st in her age group, Taotao L. secured 2nd place, and Richard H. achieved 3rd place in his respective age group. Behind every medal and every personal best lies months — and years — of disciplined training, self-reflection and the courage to push beyond comfort zones in the pursuit of excellence.

This was more than a competition; it was a formative experience that will remain with our pupils for a lifetime. On the international stage, they learned the meaning of perseverance, teamwork and respect for opponents, while discovering how to trust themselves and rise above pressure.

The glory belongs not only to every pupil who stepped onto the starting blocks, but also to the coaches, parents and supporters who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Looking ahead, we will continue to place sporting spirit at the heart of education, empowering more pupils to strengthen their character, expand their horizons and move forward with confidence and courage as they make waves on the world stage.
