Pupils in the Senior School follow a rigorous academic programme designed to challenge them, incorporating the finest elements of a modern British curriculum within our international setting to meet the needs of all our learners. We believe that Wellingtonians will emerge from school fully equipped to succeed in the 21st century. Our pupils will be genuine lifelong learners, with an understanding of the importance of personal growth and social responsibility as a result of the academic rigour and core values we embed through our classroom practice, pupil leadership and extra-curricular opportunities.
Pupils in Years 7-9 follow the English national curriculum with an international flavour whenever possible to provide context for our pupils from across the globe. Pupils study individual subjects with specialist teachers, and they develop practical skills in science, DT, ICT and art, as well as preparing themselves for the next stage in their education – the IGCSE examinations.
The IGCSE is a two-year course aimed at 16-year-old pupils and is widely recognised around the world. At our school, Year 10 and Year 11 pupils follow this programme. Mathematics, English, Chinese, and Science are core compulsory subjects, while Humanities, the Arts, Physical Education, and other languages are offered as optional subjects.
At Wellington College Education (China) - Hangzhou Sixth Form, we are proud to offer the highly regarded A Level (Advanced Level) academic programme, an English qualification recognised worldwide for excellent university preparation. Our environment constantly encourages and challenges pupils to excel in their chosen subjects. Our teachers are subject specialists and outstanding classroom practitioners. They have been hired for their infectious passion for their areas and their ability to scaffold their teaching so that all pupils can access, understand and love their subjects too.

Pupils are encouraged to pursue their interests both inside and outside of the classroom; from representing the school on the football pitch to playing in our esteemed orchestra, or even creating the next masterpiece in the art studio, there is certainly something for everyone.

Life at Wellington College Education (China) - Hangzhou Sixth Form is certainly busy but very engaging and rewarding. Our pupils are challenged and extended to reach their potential. The opportunities are plentiful and eye-opening. The academic support and scope for personal development are second to none. Our pupils will undoubtedly graduate as worldly, well-prepared and independent lifelong learners.
The A Level programme is well known for being excellent university preparation due to its challenging content and rigorous assessments. Pupils will choose three subjects to study over the two years, from the ages of 16 to 18. As there are no compulsory subjects, pupils are encouraged to choose their academic passions. With only three subjects to study, learners become specialists in these areas as they cover each in far greater depth than a broader curriculum would allow.
The world of higher education can be a mystery to high school pupils, especially when the desired institutions are abroad. The pathway to university is a high priority for us, to the point that it is taught formally from the age of 14. Pupils will learn about different university systems, entry requirements, and student life. They will receive one-to-one guidance on choosing a suitable course and step-by-step support with the application process. The world of higher education can be a mystery to high school pupils, especially when the desired institutions are abroad.

To help our pupils learn more about universities and careers, we have a bespoke programme of external speakers. Past and present university students share their experiences about their academic lives and our pupils are free to ask questions such as “which subjects did you study at A Level?” and “what is the food like at university?”. Pupils can also sign up for webinars led by prestigious U.K. university lecturers to gain a taste of higher education.

Our pupils will be fully equipped with the knowledge and skills to not only apply successfully to university, but also thrive once they are there.
