Wellington College International Hangzhou recently hosted its second Stop-Motion Movie-Making Competition Awards Show, The WellingTony Awards, an inspiring celebration of creativity, storytelling and digital innovation.

Pupils have been developing their own short films using stop-motion techniques, building sets, designing characters, capturing frame-by-frame movement and editing their productions using digital tools. Throughout the process, children strengthened key digital literacy skills, including digital organisation, responsible media creation, file management, image sequencing and the ethical use of creative tools. This competition not only showcased artistic flair but also demonstrated how confidently and responsibly our pupils navigate digital environments.

During the awards event, families were invited to a premiere screening featuring all competition entries. The variety was extraordinary: LEGO adventures, clay characters, paper-cut worlds and imaginative narratives that demonstrated both technical skill and inventive thinking. The full compilation ran for 35 minutes and held the audience from start to finish, a testament to the fun of the event and the quality of the pupils' work.

Categories recognised achievements such as Best Technical Movie, Most Creativity and Best Theme Integration, ensuring every aspect of the filmmaking process was celebrated. The atmosphere was warm, proud and joyful, with parents applauding the hard work behind each entry.

This event reaffirmed our belief that when children are empowered with the right digital tools, they become creators, innovators and confident communicators. The Stop-Motion Movie-Making Competition has not only strengthened pupils' technical and storytelling skills but also shown families the meaningful role EdTech plays in enriching learning at Wellington College International Hangzhou.

We look forward to making this creative celebration a much-anticipated annual tradition.
