Changemakers Unite: Pupils Lead Global Sustainability Dialogue

16 May 2025

Education is the foundation of progress, and at Wellington College International Hangzhou Primary School, our pupils are proving just how powerful young voices can be in shaping a sustainable future. Claire, Prisha, Florence and Grace, four passionate pupils from Wellington College Hangzhou, recently participated in an inspiring Intergenerational Sustainability and Climate Dialogue, hosted by Wellington College U.K.

This groundbreaking online event brought together pupils from across the Wellington global family—including Wellington Tianjin, Wellington Shanghai and Wellington Pune—to discuss sustainability, climate action and the role of young changemakers. The dialogue was a testament to the power of education in empowering pupils to take charge of their future.

A Global Conversation

on Sustainability

The pupils explored eight critical questions, including:

  • What inspires them to live sustainably?

  • How can they take meaningful action in their communities?

  • How do they cope with climate anxiety?

The discussion was energising and hopeful, as pupils shared personal stories, innovative ideas and collective determination to drive change. From reducing waste to advocating for policy shifts, the conversation highlighted that sustainability is not just a responsibility—it is an opportunity to innovate and lead.

Why Education Matters

in Climate Action

At Wellington College International Hangzhou, we believe that education is the key to unlocking a sustainable future. When pupils like Claire, Prisha, Florence and Grace engage in global dialogues, they:

✔ Develop critical thinking about environmental challenges.
✔ Build confidence to take action in their communities.
✔ Connect with like-minded peers worldwide, reinforcing that they are not alone in this mission.

This event was not just a discussion—it was a call to action. By fostering intergenerational collaboration, where pupils and educators exchange ideas, we create a richer, more inclusive approach to sustainability.

The passion and insight demonstrated by our pupils in this dialogue remind us that the next generation is ready to lead. By equipping them with knowledge, platforms for discussion and the confidence to act, we ensure that sustainability is not just a lesson—it's a movement.

Let's continue learning, collaborating and taking action—together.
