March Adventures: Celebrating School Activities
At the start of Spring, the campus exudes a new atmosphere and vitality. Our school activities (SA) remain dynamic and diversified, encompassing academics, creativity, community and physical. The desire for knowledge saturated every academic building, with groups of pupils engaged in passionate academic debates and sharing life experiences. Pupils’ art pieces fill the halls and display windows of academic buildings, exuding a sense of inventiveness. On the playground, pupils joyfully engaged in a variety of competitive activities, with laughing and cheers resounding throughout. The entire campus was filled with infinite beauty and vibrancy, embodying the school's vision of "Be You, Be More."
Physical School Activity
Physical activities on campus are exciting and challenging. Golf is beneficial to pupils’ understanding of the social etiquette in sports. At the same time, Archery also provides pupils with the opportunity to improve their concentration and accuracy while practising. Both golf enthusiasts and archery beginners eager to master new skills will benefit a lot from these activities. By participating in these activities, pupils can strengthen their personal fitness and promote their physical and mental wellbeing, but also develop friendships, and have a better understanding of competition and collaboration in teams.
Golf
Golf, a fun and challenging activity, helps pupils improve their swing, putting and course management skills. It could be enjoyed by both new and experienced golfers. Whether it is to improve your skills, increase your knowledge of the game, or just for fun and discovering new habits, golf is an ideal choice.
Archery
Sports originate from life, exist in culture, emerge from trends and return to the fun. Archery, an emerging sport with all these characters, has low intensity, strong socialisation and the benefits of practising mindfulness and nurturing temperament, perfectly fitting the needs of today's youth. From three aspects, bow and arrow culture, shooting skills, and competition and cooperation, attendees learned the highest standard in the Olympic games "Competitive Recurve Bow" to enrich their after-class life.
Creative School Activity
Imaginative and unique creative activities on campus can substantially encourage pupils' creativity and hands-on ability, as well as improve their artistic expression, appreciation and unique characteristics. By participating in these activities, pupils can showcase their talents, connect with like-minded peers, and share creative ideas and insights. Creative activities not only enliven the cultural atmosphere on campus but also allow pupils to display and develop their own originality.
WCCH Orchestra
The orchestra's performance flows smoothly, featuring both classical melodies and modern compositions. The pupils in the ensemble are completely absorbed, their eyes focused and their movements accurate and deliberate. The music fills the air, seemingly telling a story. In this moment, they are not just playing music; they are representing the vitality and beauty of youth.
Clay Making
Clay Making, commonly known as Colour Sculpture, is an ancient art of Chinese folk tradition. It takes clay as raw material, kneaded by hand, plain or coloured, mainly to make figures and animals. In Clay Making SA, the purpose is to develop the pupil’s ability of observation, attention, imagination and creativity. Pupil’s practical ability was also enhanced and their self-confidence and aesthetic tastes were boosted too.
Community School Activity
Community activities on campus are diverse. The Chinese Culture Club SA allows pupils to experience rich traditional Chinese culture and participate in various traditional folk arts. At the same time, the Gardening SA also provides pupils with the opportunity to cultivate and care for plants on campus and enjoy the gifts of nature. These activities promote pupils' sense of social responsibility and enhance their spirit of collective cooperation. Participation in community activities helps pupils build long-term friendships and improve their communication and organisational skills.
Gardening (Allotments)
Gardening SA enables pupils to participate in various phases such as land preparation, sowing, watering, fertilising, managing, flowering and harvesting, stimulating their senses through colours, fragrances, textures, water sounds, etc., to feel the beautiful natural environment. It aims to release the tension and pressure of learning, relieve emotions and enjoy the goodness of everyday life. Attendees grew different plants according to their preferences, not only witnessing the whole progress of plants’ growth but also enjoying the fun and sense of achievement from personal participation.
Chinese Culture Club
Chinese culture is profound and extensive. The Chinese Culture Club offers a unique platform for pupils who are interested in the Chinese language and culture. Here, attendees can not only learn about the rich traditional Chinese cultural knowledge but also personally engage in diverse folk art activities such as paper cutting, Peking opera mask painting, kite making and more. They will also get to experience traditional Chinese projects like Chinese songs and Chinese chess. Through these activities, they can deeply appreciate the distinctive charm of Chinese culture and enhance their understanding and love of Chinese civilisation.
Academic School Activity
Academic activities in different forms and topics on campus are designed to broaden pupils’ knowledge and develop their critical thinking and collaboration skills. Chinese Characters and Stories SA aims to take pupils to explore the origin, evolution and cultural stories of Chinese characters, enhancing their understanding and interest in Chinese characters. At the same time, the Chinese Poetry Club provides a platform for the attendees to exchange literature ideas and create poetry works, enhancing their literacy and expression ability. Whether Chinese language beginners or literature lovers, pupils find like-minded partners and enrich campus life through these programmes.
Chinese Poetry Club
Poetry constantly carries writers' thoughts and feelings, reflecting the shining Chinese culture, throughout the changeable ages. The Yunhong Poetry Club was born with the hope that this platform will allow more poetry enthusiasts to find a sense of belonging, to learn, discuss and create together, with the power of poetry to unite kindred spirits from different places of the world. In this SA, pupils developed a greater interest in Chinese poetry and Chinese culture, as well as learned the methods and skills of writing regulated verse, ancient-style poetry, modern poetry, and so on.
Chinese Characters and Stories
Chinese Characters and Stories SA aims to give pupils a basic understanding of the evolution of Chinese characters, the laws of character formation and well-used Chinese characters, before they are formally introduced to the young pupils. They have learned about the origins and evolution of Chinese characters through their magical transformation from pictures to symbols, and also had the opportunity to learn the history and cultural stories behind these magical square characters, as well as discovered lively Chinese culture!
