At Wellington College International Hangzhou Primary School, we believe in nurturing creativity and self-expression in every child. Poetry is a powerful tool that helps our pupils develop their language skills, build confidence and explore their emotions and ideas in a meaningful way. The Poetry Slam was a highlight of our academic year so far, providing a platform for our pupils to shine and celebrate their unique voices.
On Tuesday, our school was alive with rhythm, rhyme and the power of words as we celebrated our annual Poetry Slam. This cherished event showcased the incredible talent, creativity, courage and confidence of our pupils, and we couldn't be prouder of their achievements.
Each year group delivered outstanding individual and group performances, making it a truly memorable morning. The enthusiasm and dedication of our young poets were evident in every line spoken and the atmosphere was electric as they shared their love for poetry with their peers, teachers and parents.
We are thrilled to congratulate our individual and group winners, who demonstrated exceptional creativity, skill and passion:
These pupils not only impressed with their poetic prowess but also with their ability to captivate the audience and bring their words to life.
This year's Poetry Slam was centred around the theme “Celebrations Around the World”. Our pupils explored diverse cultural festivities, traditions and joyous occasions from across the globe, bringing these vibrant themes to life through their performances.
Year 1 to Year 3 focused on practising and reciting a poem linked to the theme. Their performances were a delightful showcase of their growing confidence and ability to express themselves through poetry.
Year 4 to Year 6 took their creativity a step further by planning, writing and performing their own original poems. Their work reflected deep thought, personal connections to the theme and a flair for poetic expression.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents, teachers and staff who supported this event. Your encouragement and enthusiasm meant the world to our pupils and helped make events like this so special.
As we reflect on the success of this year's Poetry Slam, we are already looking forward to next year's event. We cannot wait to see how our pupils continue to grow, innovate and inspire us with their creativity.
To all our pupils, whether you were a finalist, a winner or simply part of the audience, thank you for making this year's Poetry Slam such a joyous celebration. Keep writing, keep performing and keep sharing your voices with the world!
