At Wellington College International Hangzhou, we believe in nurturing the creativity of our pupils beyond the confines of the regular curriculum. Our once-a-week photography school activity is a testament to this commitment, and we are thrilled to share the remarkable progress and successes of our young photographers.
Every week, a group of dedicated pupils come together under the guidance of their photography teacher to explore the fascinating art and science of photography. They have been mastering the vital concept of the exposure triangle: understanding the intricate balance between ISO, shutter speed and aperture. These principles are foundational to capturing well-exposed photographs and our pupils have excelled in translating this knowledge into practice.
One of the highlights of our SA is the focus on composition techniques. Our pupils have been learning to view the world through a new lens—literally and figuratively, they have embraced the rule of thirds, distributing their subjects and backgrounds in ways that create engaging and balanced visuals. Symmetry has taught them to find harmony in their shots while experimenting with black-and-white photography has opened their eyes to the power of contrasts and textures.
Furthermore, the framing technique has added a new dimension to their skills. By using natural and architectural frames within their environment, our pupils have learned to draw attention to their subjects in innovative ways, making their photos stand out.
These lessons have not only improved their technical abilities but have also fostered a deeper appreciation for the art of photography. The creativity and originality in their work have been nothing short of inspiring. They have captured everything from the subtle nuances of light and shadow to the vibrant colours and dynamic movements surrounding them.
Recently, we set up an exhibition to showcase their incredible photographs, giving our young artists the opportunity to display their talents to their parents, peers and teachers. The exhibition was a vibrant celebration of their hard work and creativity, with each photograph telling a unique story through the camera lens. Parents, teachers and pupils marvelled at the stunning displays and the event was a resounding success, highlighting the exceptional progress our pupils have made.
As we look back at the incredible photographs our pupils have produced, we see a rich tapestry of talent and creativity. The progress they have made is a testament to their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm for learning. Each image they create tells a story, reflecting their unique perspectives and the exciting journey they are on.
We are immensely proud of what our pupils have accomplished and cannot wait to see how they continue to grow as photographers. Their passion and skills are a shining example of the potential that lies within each of them, nurtured by the supportive environment of our photography school activity.
