Here at Wellington College Hangzhou, we view parents as close partners and members of the school family. Parents are the first and foremost influence on their child’s development and future outcomes. The interactions that take place in the home environment have more impact on a child’s future achievement than innate ability or material circumstances. Every parent automatically becomes a member of Friends of Huili and Wellington upon joining the school. The parents meet regularly and consistently contribute to making life at school vibrant, not just for the pupils but for the whole community, by working to bring people together to share, learn and to celebrate. Friends of Huili and Wellington is an integral part of school life and an essential driving force behind many of the annual highlights of our calendar.

This term, Friends of Huili and Wellington continued their wonderful work and contribution to parent-school communication. Let us look back at the exciting workshops held by Friends of Huili and Wellington in May.

Wellington International Day

Friends of Wellington worked as a coordinator and organiser in preparation for International Day to ensure that each stall was ready in an orderly manner. They helped pupils in each class to deepen their understanding of the countries they were assigned to represent, such as their history, customs, traditional costumes, food and games. On the day of the event, while the pupils showcased the unique charm of each country, parents brought delicious international cuisine and organised various fun cultural experiences, including traditional dances and handicrafts. This improved pupils’ understanding of other countries and cultures, strengthened their cross-cultural communication skills and developed important qualities of teamwork, communication and creativity.

The long-awaited Summer Carnival is returning on Saturday 3 June. There will be 23 stalls organised by our parent volunteers on the day for the participants. We cannot wait for everyone to experience the wonder of the day!

Friends of Huili and Wellington is a welcoming group which encourages parents and members from our wider community to engage with the school in many varied ways. Parents on the committee will also be asked to act as the school’s parents committee. They will provide us with the parents’ voice; an invaluable source of suggestions, opinion and feedback which will cover all aspects of school life. As always, we thank everyone involved in Friends of Huili and Wellington for their continuous support for the school’s development and pupils’ growth.
