Wellington Pupils excel in global Chinese writing competition
Pupils from Wellington College International Hangzhou have won the first International Youth Chinese Writing Competition, placing Silver Medal globally and winning the Outstanding Award in the Main China group. The competition attracted more than 100 leading international schools worldwide, including international schools, bilingual schools and public schools abroad, with over 2,000 pupils participating.

After being judged by nearly 100 experts in the worldwide, our Year 9 student Amy W was awarded the Silver Medal in the Global Non-native Language Group. In addition, Angelina Q won the Outstanding Award in the China Non-native Language group. This is the first time we have participated in a global Chinese language competition, and we would like to congratulate Amy W and Angelina Q.
The Chinese department's initiative to encourage pupils to "read more and create more" has provided a solid foundation for this competition. In international schools, pupils rarely have time to speak Chinese, let alone read Chinese books. Pupils can bring their favourite books to school to read, or they are free to read from the Chinese classroom, and we have regular reading reports. The teachers encourage pupils to create their own work, and the weekly journals have become a stage for pupils to do so. Some pupils have even started to write serialised novels, and many created their first poems during the school's Poetry Day.
Pupils work from Chinese Literature Club
With the establishment of the school's Chinese Literature Club (SA), more students will be provided with a platform to write in Chinese. It is worth mentioning that Amy W is the Vice President of the Chinese Literature Club, and Angelina Q is the Editor. They not only enjoy the process of self-creation but are also willing to share their passion for writing with other students to explore and grow together.
We hope that our pupils will have many more successes in future competitions.
